Library is considered to be soul of any educational institution and it plays a very important role in the field of education. Education and library adjoined together; one cannot be separated from another. Library is aptly referred as heart and soul of any educational institution.

Degree College library is the hub of all library activities established to accomplish the research and academic objective of the college. It is located in the second floor of the Degree College building giving access to its rich and paramount collection of primary and secondary Resources to its entire user’s community. Keeping in view of its vital role, the library is being constantly augmented by the acquisition of latest books, journals and electronic resources.

The library has adopted the Dewey Decimal Classification system (23rd Edition) for classifying the books and AACR –II system for cataloguing.

Circulation Counter Timing : 09.00 am to 04.00 pm
Reading Hall is kept open for 08 hours ( from 08.00 am to 04.00 pm)
Library is open on all working days except Public & National holidays.
Reading hall remains open from 08.00 am to 5.00 pm during examinations.
During vacations , it remains open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm

Software for University Libraries (SOUL) is an state-of-the-art integrated library management software designed & developed by the INFLIBNET Center based on requirements of college and university libraries. It is user-friendly software developed to work under client-server environment. The software is compliant to international standards for bibliographic formats, networking and circulation protocols. After a comprehensive study, discussions and deliberations with the senior professionals of the country, the software was designed to automate all house keeping operations in library. The latest version of the software i.e. SOUL 2.0 was released in January 2009. The database for new version of SOUL is designed for latest versions of MS-SQL and MySQL (or any other popular RDBMS). SOUL 2.0 is compliant to international standards such as MARC 21 bibliographic format, Unicode based Universal Character Sets for multilingual bibliographic records and NCIP 2.0 and SIP 2 based protocols for electronic surveillance and control.

Degree College Library started in 2009. General collection items include books. The library is in possession of 3150 volumes of primary and secondary materials including Indian and foreign books, Back Volumes of Journals.

In the starting of every academic year an orientation program is conducted for the benefit of the new students i.e. B.Com, B.B.I., B.M.S., B.A.F., B.Sc, C.S., I.T. The programmed covers the usage of library collection.

New Arrival list is provided to make aware the students and staff on library websites & during classroom teaching.

Library also subscribes to 05 daily newspapers and 12 most popular magazines. The book selection work is done by:

Library rules for the students of the College :

GENERAL RULES:

  1. College Identity Card is compulsory for library use
  2. Reader has to sign at the entrance before entering in the Library.
  3. Strict silence and discipline must be maintained in the library.
  4. Talking or group discussion is not permitted in the Library.
  5. Eatables, Audio-Visual device, cell phones, and other equipment & their use are strictly prohibited in the library.
  6. Library staff has the right to ask anyone causing disturbances to leave the library.
  7. All cases of the violation of rules will be reported to the Principal for suitable action.
  8. In case of any difficulty readers can approach the Librarian.
  9. Co- operation of the students is earnestly sought in observing the rules.

HOME LENDING:

  1. Two passport size photos, Library membership form& fee receipt is necessary for library membership.
  2. Library book will be issued to the students for home lending for seven days.
  3. Two books will be issued for home lending on library card.
  4. The book issued for home reading must be return to the library within seven days.
  5. After due date fine will be charged Rs.1 /- for per book per day. (Sundays and holidays will be consider)
  6. Pure reference books, issues of periodicals, magazines, Question Paper set and news papers will not be allowed out of the library or for home lending or external use.
  7. No books will be reissued without presenting them physically.
  8. The book may be re-issued for a week provided there is no demand for the book from other students.
  9. The readers are advised to check the books for any missing pages while borrowing them.
  10. No book in damaged condition will be accepted from the reader. Mutilated or spoiled books will have to be replaced by the borrower.
  11. Loss of book must be reported to the librarian immediately.
  12. If the book is lost or damaged by the students or if the pages are missing from the book, the value of the book shall have to be paid at the current price. If the book is rare or out of print & the cost of the book is too low, amount decided by the principal must be paid.

The Library Advisory Committee considers the development proposals of the library and budget allocations and policy decisions. It also provides directions for a structured and balanced growth of the library and to provide improved facilities and innovative services. Allocation and utilization of funds and introduction of developmental programs and requirements of the users are addressed and approved by the Library Advisory Committee
